Commemorating the victories of the Roman governor Ulpius Marcellus following a barbarian invasion early in the reign of Commodus which led to destruction at several sites on Hadrian's Wall.

This is the first coin in a group of six silver denarii of Commodus, Septimius Severus and Caracalla with reverses commemorating Roman military operations in northern Britain in the late 2nd and early 3rd centuries AD. These may be purchased individually at the prices stated or as a group for $450.
